Franciscan Convent in Izamal

This is a walk up the ramp to the 16th century Franciscan Convent in Izamal. It is built on top of a large Mayan pyramid. This is where Fray Diego de Landa burnt all of the Mayan codices. Pope John Paul II visited it in 1993. The yellow is the color of the entire town, known as the yellow city.
